From dinner at a family-owned trattoria without a menu to excellent restaurants or osterie in Italy this tour is especially designed for lovers of food and wine who would like to focus on this particular northern  Region.  Adjoining Tuscany, the Region of Emilia Romagna is relatively untouristy, one of the wealthiest Regions of Italy, and known as its “Food Bowl”, thanks to great fertile soils and a network of rivers, including the famous Po, the longest in the country. With us on this 10-day holiday you’ll be able to experience the particular flavours of local cuisine, explore and enjoy some of the art and history the Region offers, including touches of Giuseppe Verdi.

 

Our tour is ALL INCLUSIVE from the moment we meet in Bologna to departure  10 days later: there is no need to spend a single additional €.  We’ll start our tour in the cosmopolitan, lively Regional capital city, where we’ll be based for 3 nights, and then to the east coast for 2 nights, and move out to  the countryside  in the west of the Region for a relaxing 4 days.            

Pisa is not the only city in Italy with a leaning tower: Bologna has two of them! The slim 97m  Torre degli Asinelli is the highest,  and of course you can climb the 500 steps to the top, if you wish! Or stroll around and under the 40km of the city’s covered  porticoes. Don’t allow one of  the nicknames of the city (la Grassa) deter you from enjoying the local food: there are so many excellent restaurants/trattorie in the city, it’s difficult to choose! We’ll eat well! Simple rustic to rich and elaborate: nonna’s cooking to grand chef.  Further afield, there’s Parmigiano Reggiano, Aceto Balsamico, Prosciutto di Parma, Mortadella….and real Lambrusco di Modena to discover.  In Modena we’ll be booking at one of the  best restaurant in Italy.  In Parma a touch of Giuseppe Verdi’s wonderful music, and perhaps a trip to Ferrari’s factory and museum for those interested.  Sangiovese di Romagna is a popular wine of the Region: we’ll visit a vineyard, and a fresh food market. Day and half-day trips are organised to the (mainly) Renaissance World Heritage listed city of Ferrara with its  markets, excellent shopping, broad streets and palaces, the small  city of art and ceramics of Faenza, also Salsomaggiore, Faenza,  and Ravenna - almost on the Adriatic coast, with a remarkable 8 UNESCO World Heritage sites.
